Stop Living In The Moment – Guest Post by Karl Moore
We're often told to live more in the moment.
But does it actually do us any good?
Recently, I realized just how good I was at living in the moment. My days were continuously filled with joy and happiness and smiles and flow.
However, something was wrong.
I was so engrossed in the moment of each day, I lost track of the bigger picture.
Where am I going in my life?
What's really important?
How do I want to be remembered?
When will I create the next big memory?
Here's the thing.
Living in the moment is great.
But we don't want to get stuck in a ‘living-in-the-moment comfort zone' — where we exist purely for shallow, transient experience.
We occasionally need to zoom out, remind ourselves of the bigger picture…
… and then PIVOT.
The way I see it, life is made up of “pivot points”… things that happen which help punctuate periods of our lives.
The bigger the pivot, the bigger the memory.
Pivots could be our wedding day. The time we adopted our first dog. The decision to commit to a personal trainer and lose that weight. The day we decided to start dating again.
Pivot points give structure to life, and memory to experience.
And often, by living too much in the moment, we can often forget the bigger picture — and fail to nurture the pivot points that make life so amazing.
So, I'll leave you with a quick question.
Could you create a key pivot point in your life over this next month?
Here's to a future full of pivot points!
