What You'll Learn During This Free Online Tai Chi Class

Experience a meditation-in-motion that bathes your internal organs from top to bottom with vital life-force energy.

We’re emerging from one of the most stressful times in recent history. The pandemic seems to have changed everyone’s life in some way.

If you’ve lost your peace of mind or mental clarity, or even some flexibility and physical strength, you’re not alone.

Even in the best of times, the wear and tear of life’s journey can take its toll on your health and peace of mind.

Tai Chi Master Helen Liang affirms that a stronger, more flexible body and a mind that is focused in the present moment enables you to face personal challenges successfully, allowing them to wash over you rather than consume you.

But the question is, how can you achieve that?

For centuries, the ancient martial art form Tai Chi has helped people of all ages fortify their physical bodies, regain mental clarity, and access inner tranquility.

Tai Chi is often called “meditation in motion.” Its slow, low-impact, precise elegant movements are designed to activate, balance, and harmonize opposing energies — the yin and yang.

Tai Chi also clears the mind of distracting mental chatter through concentration and practice of the different postures.

During this free one-hour online workshop led by Master Helen, she’ll demonstrate a powerful pose called Lie — meaning split — which moves Qi (vital life-force energy) from the bottom to the top of your body and throughout your internal organs, improving strength, flexibility, and balance.

Helen will provide an overview of the many physical and mental benefits of the various postures, and illuminate the philosophy of Tai Chi and Taoist principles that are its foundation.

For example, one of the powerful principles in Tai Chi, yielding, is practiced by exerting the least amount of effort to obtain the greatest result. Helen refers to it as using four ounces of strength to move 1,000 pounds. This principle shows us that we can work with nature to use our natural abilities to experience life in a more harmonious way.

Helen will share how you can integrate Tai Chi into your daily life to discover or regain physical and inner strength, flexibility, resilience and vitality, improve your mental clarity, and more fully realize your sacred spiritual nature.

Class Topics for Experience A Calm Mind and A Strong Flexible Balanced Body Using Ancient Tai Chi

In this free experiential hour-long event, you’ll:

  • Explore how the practice of Tai Chi provides an opportunity for healing physically, mentally, and spiritually
  • Learn how to perform the Lie pose, one of the 13 Tai Chi postures that will activate your Qi, helping you embrace real life challenges, find peace, and build strength while increasing agility, flexibility, and balance
  • Delve into the Taoist concept of using the soft to conquer the hard
  • Understand why a calm and peaceful mind is a gateway to recognizing opportunities and uncovering solutions to challenges
  • Discover the Taoist meaning of “right time” as you learn the proper timing of the movements, and experience the synergy of how moving one part of the body affects the entire body

Precise, choreographed movements are a vital aspect of Tai Chi. As you discover and practice the Lie pose, you’ll have the opportunity to feel your Qi flow throughout your body.

You’ll find that as you concentrate on the movements, your mind clears and the chatter quiets.

Why Master Helen Liang Started Teaching Tai Chi

Helen, the eldest daughter of Grandmaster Shou-Yu Liang, began training in traditional Wushu at the age of four under his strict tutelage. At age 11, she was chosen to train with Sichuan Provincial Wushu School in China, and since then has won many gold medals in competitions throughout the world. After emigrating to Canada in 1985, she has become one of the most revered experts in North America on Chinese martial arts.

This online workshop offers a life-enriching opportunity to experience Tai Chi from a renowned master who has taught thousands of students over the past three decades and is an expert in Tai Chi for women and people with cancer.

More than 25 years ago, when Helen was confined to a hospital bed with terminal-stage lymphoma, a raging fever, and no hope for survival, she asked to go home so she could spend the last few weeks of her life with her family. Through a miraculous series of interventions, she became strong enough to return to her Qigong practice, which restored her to health.

Her own recovery from a dire health diagnosis has fueled her passion for teaching and sharing the transformative principles that saved her life.

You’ll learn how to use Tai Chi to improve the physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of your life, and explore how Taoist principles of following nature can help you recognize opportunities offered through the natural flow of life.

About Your Spiritual Teacher – Matthew Fox

Matthew Fox - HeadshotMatthew Fox is a prolific author of books dedicated to renewing the ancient tradition of Creation Spirituality, including Original Blessing, A Spirituality Named Compassion, and Christian Mystics. This earth-based mystical tradition is feminist, welcoming of the arts and artists, honors Indigenous wisdom, works with science, and is committed to interfaith approaches and eco, social, and gender justice.

Matthew’s effort to reawaken the West to its own mystical tradition has sparked awareness of Hildegard of Bingen, Meister Eckhart, Julian of Norwich, and the mysticism of Thomas Aquinas, as well as the wisdom tradition that nurtured Jesus. His work helps reconnect science and spirituality by honoring the sacredness of the Cosmos and interacting with contemporary scientists who are also mystics. He believes that “by reinventing work, education, and worship, we can bring about a nonviolent revolution on our planet.”

Matthew received his doctorate summa cum laude in the History and Theology of Spiritualities from the Institut Catholique de Paris. A member of the Dominican Order for 34 years, he established an Institute in Culture and Creation Spirituality that operated for seven years at Mundelein College in Chicago, and for 12 years at Holy Names University in Oakland.

He founded the University of Creation Spirituality in Oakland in 1996 and was president and professor until 2005, when he left to create a pilot project to reinvent the educational experience for inner-city teenagers.

Matthew is a recipient of many awards, including the Gandhi King Ikeda Award from Morehouse College, which is awarded for dedication to peace, unity, nonviolence, and justice. He also received the Peace Abbey Courage of Conscience Award; other recipients have included the Dalai Lama, Mother Teresa, and Rosa Parks. He is currently a visiting scholar at the Academy for the Love of Learning in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Testimonials for Matthew Fox

“I think of Matthew Fox as “God’s Talent Scout” for all the pivotal figures and ideas he has reclaimed for the reform of Christianity. He knows the sources and translates them into modern idioms for the rest of us! What he has done with Hildegard, Eckhart, and Aquinas makes him a major teacher and guide.” — Richard Rohr

“Matthew Fox is the Obi-Wan Kenobi of spirituality. He has redefined what healthy spirituality is, and what it is not. We should place him at the same level of cultural importance as Thomas Berry, Gandhi, and Dr. King.” — Steve Mortimer

“If one person deserves credit for the great Hildegard renaissance in our time, it is Matthew Fox. Here in the long-lost legacy of Hildegard of Bingen, Fox found blindingly beautiful paintings, radiant writings overflowing with fresh insights of the deepest kind, prophetic wisdom, and engaged political spirituality. Here was a mystical genius who could help to illuminate the human soul spirituality, ecologically, politically — in every dimension of life.” — Mary Ford-Grabowsky

“History will name Fox one of the great Christian spirits of our age.” — John Shelby Spong

Why You Should Attend the 2023 Qigong Global Summit

Would you love to master timeless techniques that release stress, foster fluidity, and ground your body and inner being to navigate daily life with ease?

Through simple yet powerful forms and meditations, you can take your healing, health, and vital energy to the next level…

… directing life-force energy (known as “Qi”) to specific parts of your body, transforming anxiety, stress, and disease into self-confidence, inner peace, and optimal health.

The Qigong Global Summit is your opportunity to expand and energize your own Qigong practice under the guidance of masters from around the world — including Daisy Lee, Deng Ming-Dao, Master Chunyi Lin, Lee Holden, Lindsey Wei, Grandmaster Mantak Chia, Master Mingtong Gu, Teja Bell Roshi, Faye Li Yip, Mark Tanaka, and many others.

These renowned instructors will guide you through Qigong techniques you can use yourself, or repurpose to show your students how to… choose their moods and energize their bodies… align and cultivate their center core of light… synthesize yoga and Qigong into a combined, potent practice… and claim physical and mental health benefits by engaging in Qigong as a spiritual practice, among other benefits.

This summit will feel akin to a virtual retreat, meaning each day will provide experiential opportunities to activate quick shifts in your body, regardless of whether you’re new to Qigong or an experienced practitioner enhancing your skill set.

Over the course of five days, you’ll absorb the philosophies and follow guided Qigong movement and meditation techniques designed to advance you — and your teaching practice — to the next level of mastery.

During this free online summit, you’ll discover how to effectively integrate Qigong practices into your life that cover a wide array of healing and practical applications, including purging stress, exploring flow, and connecting to your natural surroundings with greater serenity and ease.

You’ll have access to lifelong practice material that has benefits long after the summit is over. Whether you’re new to Qigong or a dedicated practitioner, there’s something new for you to learn and add to your routines, or to incorporate into the care you give your clients.

Scientifically Proven Benefits of Qigong

Mind, body, and spirit transformations can occur where the ancient arts of Qigong, Tai Chi, martial arts, and yoga meet.

The benefits of these different practices have been shown to increase self-healing and longevity while functioning to alleviate the physical impacts of long-term stress…

… claims that are supported by documented biological evidence — based on western medicine neuroscience research — verifying the proven health benefits of Qigong and Tai Chi.

Research also shows that Qigong is good for the mind, and can cause you to use different aspects of your brain by creating new synaptic connections.

In the Qigong Global Summit, you’ll follow the world’s top Qigong masters as they guide you through simple routines that you can use to deepen your own practice, or to demonstrate for your own students — exercises that amplify joy and vitality while cultivating better health and longevity.

You’ll be in good hands with summit host Sharon Smith, who’s been practicing Qigong, Tai Chi, and other Taoist spiritual and healing arts for more than 40 years, and teaching them for nearly as long…

… summit co-host Sifu Matthew Cohen, founder of Sacred Energy Arts… and summit guest host Daisy Lee, founder of Radiant Lotus Qigong.
