Invocation: Marianne Williamson’s Opening Prayer Synced To Music

This is what Johnny Schaefer, producer of this video has to say about it:

On iTunes and Amazon. Glorious chant entwined with Marianne Williamson‘s beloved opening prayer, set on a tapestry of musical instruments associated with spirituality from all over the world.

Eclectic Singer/Songwriter Johnny Schaefer here, living and creating in Los Angeles, CA.

As a cantor at Blessed Sacrament Church in Hollywood, I was singing the Golden Sequence, a chant which is sung on Pentecost right before the Gospel reading in several Christian traditions. It was written in 800 AD and is attributed to the archbishop of Canterbury. I am also a longtime student of A Course in Miracles and attend lectures on those books by Marianne Williamson.

It occurred to me that her beloved opening prayer, “A Way In”, is very similar in intent and purpose to the 800 year old chant. I set to writing a musical piece melding the two together. I laid down a tapestry of sounds from around the world including a didgeridoo drone. shofar, sitar, and lots of different percussion. I alternated my singing of the chant with Marianne saying the prayer.

The drone represents the earth plain. Marianne often talks of our need to “lift the vibration” in our thoughts and subsequent actions. So on the final “Alleluia” I raise up a step.

My friend and co-producer, George Reich, contributed some wonderful ideas and I was blessed to have Michael Canyon Drebert create this beautiful video.

I am grateful to Marianne Williamson for allowing me to use her voice and material in this and two other songs on my album, Acoustic Remedy.
