Traumatized Woman Crying and Being Offered HealingOne of the most difficult things about healing from trauma is how confusing and lost you can feel because there doesn’t seem to be a clear path.

People tend to think of the long-term effects of trauma as psychological, but in fact, the body and brain both experience lasting biological changes.

Burnout, substance abuse, depression, anxiety, PTSD, pain, weight gain, gut issues and chronic fatigue are all part of the predictable patterns of stored trauma.

To find the way out, you have to understand the biology of trauma: the biology that predisposes you to trauma and keeps you stuck in fear, insecurity and inflammation even if you are doing all the treatments, therapy and meditation.

Patterns of stress and overwhelm that get wired into our nervous systems can have long-term effects on our health, becoming the true root causes of many symptoms and diagnoses.

The Biology of Trauma 3.0 Summit bridges the worlds of mental health, trauma therapy, neuroscience and functional medicine with experts who explore the emotional, psychological and physiological aspects of trauma. Join us to learn how to rewire trauma patterns for improved mental and physical health!

Benefits of Attending the Biology of Trauma 3.0 Summit

  • Safely reconnect with your body
  • Be able to use trauma as a gift rather than a setback
  • Move beyond trauma-informed models to growth & wellness
  • Protect your emotional well-being
  • Choose the appropriate trauma therapy tools for you
  • Improve your sleep & lower inflammation
  • Build authentic relationships
  • Go through difficult life events without them overwhelming or crushing you
  • Integrate biology into trauma therapy for faster, better results
  • And so much more!

Why We Don't Always Know We Have Trauma

In these challenging times, many people are feeling incredibly overwhelmed and don’t know what steps to take next.

Overwhelming experiences, even past experiences in childhood – feeling like you don’t belong, feeling different, feeling that you’re unlovable – may not be something you would recognize as trauma in your life.

We often don’t see it as trauma because we’re thinking of it as “stress” or “emotion,” but it is the experience of overwhelm that impacts the body the most.

Trauma and chronic stress have lasting effects on our body and on our biology: burnout, depression, anxiety, PTSD, pain, weight gain, gut issues, trouble sleeping, chronic fatigue.

When you register for the Biology of Trauma 3.0 Summit, you'll get access to several free gifts, including:

Gift #1: “Steps to Identify and Heal Trauma!” eBook

Steps to Identify and Heal Trauma eBookThe path to healing trauma starts with identifying where it originated and how it’s stored in the body. Learn strategies for releasing the imprint left behind after challenging experiences!

You might be surprised to learn that trauma is not an event. Although it might occur around an event, it is not about the event. Trauma is the experience your body had going through the event, or through a period of time.

Trauma is anything that, for any reason, at that time overwhelmed you. It’s the state of the nervous system at the time of an event that determines whether one person walks away from it fine and another is deeply affected.

And it is the biology of trauma that can contribute to many health conditions when trauma remains unresolved. How do you know if you have trauma? What can you do to fix it?

Get answers to these questions and take the next step towards your healing self and away from trauma when you read this free eBook.

About Your Biology of Trauma Summit 2022 Host – Dr. Aimie Apigian

Dr. Aimie ApigianYour host, Dr. Aimie Apigian, was inspired to leave her career as a surgeon and entered the trauma and attachment field because of the long and difficult experience of helping her foster son rewire his biology of trauma — a path of struggle and healing that led to the commitment to help others journey toward wholeness.

During her journey, she discovered that none of us are spared from negative life experiences that get stored in our bodies.

Her vision is to bridge the worlds of trauma and medicine in order to help more people be free from the effects of past trauma.

Dr. Aimie Apigian is a double board-certified medical physician in both preventive and addiction medicine and holds master’s degrees in both biochemistry and public health. She is the leading medical expert on addressing stored trauma in the body through her signature model and methodology, The Biology of Trauma™: a new lens that courageously uplevels the old methods of trauma work and medicine by reverse-engineering trauma's effects on the nervous system and body on a cellular level.

Dr. Apigian specialized in trauma, attachment and addictions after having personal experience in foster parenting, adopting and then having her own health issues that were a result of childhood and life experiences. In addition to her medical studies that include functional medicine certification, she has sought out trauma therapy training since 2015.

A three-time summit host, Dr. Apigian founded the nonprofit Family Challenge Camps, where she developed and ran weekend intensives for families with children who have experienced attachment trauma. She is currently the founder and CEO of Trauma Healing Accelerated, where she bridges the worlds of functional medicine and trauma therapy with a mission to help adults accelerate the healing journey by addressing the biological processes that keep stored trauma stuck in the body, mind and spirit. Her providers certification course teaches providers to do the same for their clients.

She’s here to help you by sharing her wisdom.

Complex trauma is often rooted in unresolved experiences from the past, where memories feel like they’re happening “in the now”––making it particularly difficult to engage the logical mind when the body remains dysregulated.

If the brain can’t find a way to down-regulate this automatic response, the brain can get trapped in a “default setting,” where it continues to repeat the same unhealthy responses and patterns time and again.

For your clients with complex trauma rooted in attachment injury––who present with a variety of symptoms, from psychological issues like anxiety, depression, anger and hopelessness to physical symptoms such as chronic pain, fatigue or digestive issues––it can often feel like they’re on high alert 24-7-365.

The truth is, traumatic experiences that happen during our formative years leave an imprint on the body and mind that can be difficult to sort out—or even articulate.

Even as therapists, it’s not easy to know what to look for.

The good news is that, no matter how complex the trauma, repair is possible.

Complex trauma can be demystified when you know how to pick up on subtle, nonverbal clues that reveal where there is work to be done and what is needed to move forward.

So how can we support clients suffering from complex trauma, especially when they may present with wide-ranging, diverse symptoms related to developmental trauma?

With the right training and proven somatic techniques, it’s possible to detect physical and behavioral signs of attachment injury embedded within complex trauma to:

  • Tap into the body’s innate wisdom
  • Calm the nervous system
  • Unlock a greater capacity for healing

What You'll Learn During “Working With Attachment Injury Embedded in Complex Trauma”

“Every modality can and should employ Somatic Experiencing and Dynamic Attachment Repatterning to help deactivate the myriad of possible traumas that occur in the world.” – Dr. Peter Levine

With a fuller understanding of how complex trauma forms––and how our systems become dysregulated as a result, you’ll learn how to begin applying body-centered methods for processing and healing.

In this free, 90-minute LIVE training:

  • You’ll get a glimpse at the transformative nature of Somatic Experiencing®, as Dr. Levine demonstrates clinical techniques using short examples from actual client sessions.
  • Learn how to recognize and identify insecure attachment patterning––and what happens to our bodies (and emotions) when the threat response persists into adulthood.
  • Why complex traumas form and remain stored in the body, including ways to release locked trauma to restore secure attachment and support post-traumatic growth and resilience.
  • Dr. Levine will demonstrate how to become attuned to and read the physical signs of trauma so you can more safely and effectively address trauma that can’t be verbalized.
  • You’ll get guidance in helping clients transition out of negative self-talk and other unproductive coping mechanisms––so you avoid re-traumatization and empower clients to repair early attachment trauma by reinforcing choice and curiosity.
  • We’ll discuss perceptual skills and practical somatic techniques that help you recognize when your client is stuck in a threat response that’s keeping them from living in the present.
  • Dr. Levine will walk us through several client demo scenarios to show you how to identify symptoms of core dysregulation, evaluate insecure attachment patterning and apply various somatic techniques that release trauma from the body.

With a deeper understanding of how complex trauma forms—and how our systems become dysregulated as a result––we can apply body-based attachment techniques to help our clients restore secure attachment and find long-lasting, effective relief from physical and psychological distress.

Whether you’re a seasoned Somatic Experiencing® therapist or just starting out, this is a rare opportunity to learn critical clinical skills (in a LIVE training format) from two top experts in trauma and attachment.

You’ll want to attend the live session, as Dr. Levine and Dr. Heller have set aside time to answer your questions at the end.

The Three Aspects of Complex Trauma That We Will Explore

1. How to Recognize and Identify Insecure Attachment Patterning

Dr. Levine and Dr. Heller discuss why attachment injury is inherent to all complex trauma––and what happens to our bodies (and emotions) when the fight, flight, freeze or fawn threat response persists into adulthood.

2. Why Complex Traumas Form and Manifest in the Body

Trauma-informed care means we need to have a basic understanding of how common traumatic stress responses remain stored in the body. We’ll review the relationship between bodily symptoms and emotions––and how locked trauma can be released to restore secure attachment and promote post-traumatic growth and resilience.

3. Clinical Tools to Support Clients with Complex Trauma

The body talks––but do we know how to listen? Dr. Levine will guide us through short examples of client demonstration sessions where he introduces body-based interventions that can be easily integrated with almost any therapeutic modality.

Why You Should Attend “Working with Attachment Injury Embedded in Complex Trauma”

This session is being facilitated by Peter Levine and Dr. Diane Poole Heller – two top experts in trauma and attachment.

Dr. Heller understands that to provide the most competent, compassionate care, it’s crucial to remain curious about the nature of trauma and the various paths to healing.

And as you likely know, there is no one more qualified than Dr. Levine to teach the intricacies of traumas, how they manifest in the body, and body-centered methods for processing and healing.

As therapists, we face trauma every day. We observe the symptoms. We listen to the stories. We support the recovery. But there is always more to learn.

Because at some point, we all have clients who struggle to let go of their pain. And despite all of our education and experience, we sometimes find ourselves at a loss for ways to help them move forward when they hit a plateau.

The reality is that many of us are taught theoretical principles without the methodology or framework of how to put it into everyday clinical practice.

But imagine how many more people we could heal if we could…

  • Open our minds to new modalities, expand our perspective and confidently use new tools to understand and guide our clients’ healing journey.
  • Share experiences and expertise, increasing our collective wisdom and skill to recognize complex trauma––even when it’s hidden.
  • Access effective approaches and interventions to help people use the pain of the past as a catalyst to find relief, finally connect to their authentic self, restore secure attachment and set them on a path to healing.

This session is a perfect opportunity for you to recommit to strengthening your understanding of trauma and learn additional ways to restore presence, aliveness and connections.

You’ll also come away with practical strategies and interventions you can apply to client sessions immediately.

Who “Working with Attachment Injury Embedded in Complex Trauma” Is For

You should attend this free training if:

  • You have clients who struggle with complex trauma, and you want to support them by uncovering and working with the trauma and stress states that underlie their conditions.
  • You’d like to better understand how complex trauma develops—and explore effective ways to switch off the stress response to cultivate healing.
  • As a therapist, you want practical, clinical tools and somatic techniques that help you identify the physical characteristics and manifestations of trauma, so you can guide your clients toward relief safely and successfully.
  • You’ve seen your clients present with a seemingly endless array of unpredictable or changeable symptoms and you want to be able to help clients understand the functional nature of their symptoms, so they can find relief and begin healing.

Who The Trauma's Everyday Impact Summit Is For

The event features targeted trauma talks to reveal how trauma impacts different areas of your life…

Ways Trauma Normally Shows Up

Whether you’ve got an obvious trauma history or not. For example, we know trauma can show up as:

  • Sleep problems
  • Addiction
  • Anxiety
  • Depression

How Unresolved Trauma Can Look “Normal”

What most people don't realize is that trauma can also look like:

  • Daily stress
  • Poor self care
  • Money issues
  • Reactivity

Understanding that trauma causes your destructive patterns means you can stop them.

If you’ve been through hell, or had a pretty nice life, there’s something for you here.

Whether you’re new to the idea of trauma showing up in sneaky ways in your life…

Or deep into healing severe trauma…

There’s something for you at this event.

The people we’ve asked to lead this event are not only great teachers, but have been there themselves. War, abuse, sex work, and the supposedly smaller traumas of being overwhelmed by families, life and “everyday” stuff.

These are the people we love and trust on this topic. These are the people we go to when things are rough, to laugh and cry with. These are the people we’ve seen help many, many people.

As well as being practical teachers, they’re also fun. This may sound like a strange thing to say around this topic, but jokes help, even when dealing with heavy stuff.

The event will be practical and respectful trauma education, with humor, for robust adults.
