Dr. Aimie Apigian is a double board-certified medical physician in both preventive and addiction medicine and holds master’s degrees in both biochemistry and public health. She is the leading medical expert on addressing stored trauma in the body through her signature model and methodology, The Biology of Trauma™: a new lens that courageously uplevels the old methods of trauma work and medicine by reverse-engineering trauma's effects on the nervous system and body on a cellular level.

Kirsty Cullen - Fatigue Superconference Host Kirsty’s interest in nutrition began as a consequence of health issues experienced by her own daughter, and later evolved due to her own mother’s experience with ME/CFS. After seeing significant improvement using nutritional therapy, Kirsty made the decision to become a practitioner herself and leave a successful corporate career.

Following graduation Kirsty worked in the corporate wellness sector and also undertook a number of nutrition roles within the professional sports arena, assessing and advising football managers and elite athletes on health and nutrition.

Kirsty also worked as Lead Nutritional Therapist at Derby County Football Club. The Vagus Nerve & Self-Healing

When faced with a challenge, the body responds by turning on complex adaptive pathways that are turned off when the threat passes.

Two important systems that mediate quick and precise responses to stresses are the nervous and immune systems. These systems are connected physically and physiologically, and share many similarities that facilitate interactions between them.

You cannot have a well-functioning immune system without a healthy nervous system, and vice-versa!

For the immune system to do its job properly, it has to be well-balanced, and the pathway that keeps the immune system balanced is mediated through the vagus nerve, which innervates many of your organs — including the immune organs, such as the thymus, spleen and gut.

Parasympathetic (rest-digest-detoxify-heal) activation of the vagus nerve is required to keep these organs active. In contrast, sympathetic (fight-or-flight) activation will decrease or even shut down the activity of those organs.

Chronic stress and resulting sympathetic dominance will then lead to chronically lowered levels of immune organ activity, higher levels of immune dysregulation and the inability of the immune system to react to threats appropriately.
