Since then, Raja has created numerous documentary films on wisdom and consciousness, including Spirituality in the Modern World with Ken Wilber and Traleg Rinpoche… Yoga: Harmony with Nature (the official international film for the first International Day of Yoga)… The Quantum Indians (winner of the 2014 National Film Award of India)… The Modern Mystic… and Guruji Amritananda. He’s currently making a film entitled America’s First Guru for PBS on how Indian Wisdom first came to America.

Raja gave a TED talk in Bangalore on “Indian Wisdom for Today’s World” in 2012 and a TEDx talk in 2015 on yoga. His videos on Shakti, Mantras, Kundalini, Shiva, the Third Eye, and meditation are popular on YouTube. In his own spiritual quest, he was initiated first into Kriya Yoga in 1998, and went on to take deep initiations into Raja Yoga, advanced Kriya Yoga, and then finally, Sri Vidya and Maha Vidya Tantra. Raja is also a student of Trika, Qigong, sacred geometry, neuroscience, history, esoteric traditions, and the mind. His teachings are a syncretic blend of Eastern and Western philosophies and techniques.

About Your Yoga Teacher – Gary Kraftsow

Gary Kraftsow - HeadshotGary Kraftsow has been an innovator in the transmission of yoga for health, healing, and personal transformation for over 40 years. He began his study of yoga in India with T.K.V. Deśikāchar in 1974 and received a Viniyoga Special Diploma from Viniyoga International in Paris, France in 1988.

Gary received his masters degree in psychology and religion from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1983 and opened the Maui School of Yoga Therapy around that time.

In 1999, he founded the American Viniyoga Institute, LLC. Since then, he has become a renowned speaker and teacher of the Viniyoga methodology at many conferences and schools nationally and internationally. Gary has successfully developed protocol for two National Institutes of Health studies, one on yoga for chronic low back pain and one on yoga for anxiety. He also helped develop a clinical trial on mind-body stress reduction in the workplace.

He is the director and senior teacher at the American Viniyoga Institute (AVI®), author of the books Yoga for Wellness and Yoga for Transformation, and the educational DVDs Viniyoga Therapy for Low Back, Sacrum and Hips… Viniyoga Therapy for Upper Back, Neck and Shoulders… Viniyoga Therapy for Depression… and Viniyoga Therapy for Anxiety.

He has also produced multiple online workshops and is in the process of creating the AVI Digital Library, which offers both live and on-demand classes.

About Your Vinyasa Yoga Teacher – Shiva Rea

Shiva Rea HeadshotShiva Rea, MA, is a global Prana Vinyasa Yoga teacher, activist, and innovator in the evolution of vinyasa yoga around the world, from large-scale festivals and conferences to unplugged retreats. She has taught thousands of students, teachers, and movers and shakers how to integrate yoga as a way of life. As founder of Prana Vinyasa Yoga and the Samudra Global School for Living Yoga, she integrates the roots of vinyasa, yoga, Ayurveda, and tantra in online courses, workshops, retreats, and trainings. Her studies in the Krishnamacharya lineage, the martial art of kalaripayattu, world dance, yogic arts, and somatic movement infuse her approach to living yoga and embodying the flow.

Shiva, an active collaborator across many fields, is known for offering the synthesis form of vinyasa flow throughout the world, bringing the roots of yoga alive for modern practitioners in creative, dynamic, and life-transforming ways. She is a pioneer in reviving the art of namaskar through diverse namaskars or salutations, as well as developing wave-sequencing, 3-part vinyasa, and teaching alignment in the flow, energetic alignment, multi-dimensional sequencing, mandala circular wave-sequencing, rasa prana vinyasa, and integrating the creative, spontaneous movement known as “sahaja” in post-modern yoga. Since 2000, Shiva has created and offered over 25 award-winning DVD-CDs for home practice. She was the catalyst for Yoga Energy Activism and the Global Mala Project, which has raised awareness and funds for local and global climate change.

She is a contributor to such publications as Origin, Mantra, Yoga Journal, L.A. Times, Vanity Fair, and Self. Her latest book, Tending the Heart Fire: Living in Flow with the Pulse of Life, is about living vinyasa. She has led free-form movement at Bhakti Fest, Bali Spirit Festival, and Burning Man. Shiva has collaborated with DJs, artists, and musicians to bring the art and healing power of music into the flow of yoga and create moving meditations accessible to anyone.
